The Weeknd Remixes Lorde's 'Royals', The Weeknd music
16-year-old New Zealander Lorde released The Love Club EP back in March. It's five incredibly catchy and original pop songs layered with her own vocal harmonies, that sounds more mature than her teen years. The LP's standout track "Royals" is even something Obama could get down with, as it smacks down the youth's obsession with wealth and celebrity while name checking Beyonce and Maybachs. "But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom," Lorde sings on the track. "Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room/We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams/ But everybody's like crystal, Maybach, diamonds on your time piece/ Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash/ We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair." The Weeknd was seemingly affected by the track's poignant delivery and decided to give it a remix. He mostly adds his R&B oohs and ahhs to the original plus some more dreamy production. Listen to the "Royals" remix below and be on the lookout for a rising star named Lorde. The Weeknd drops his debut studio album Kiss Land on Sept. 10.
